A Yank In Libya is a 1942 film that is a Drama, War, and Romance film. Its run time is one hour and five minutes. I have never heard of this movie or if it is any good, so I have zero expectations for this movie, let’s see how this pans out.

Interest: The interest I had in this movie is okay at best. It’s slow, doesn’t have much excitement, and does little in trying to keep the person watching engaged and involved in the story. It certainly tries to be an interesting story. To me It may be because it’s so old that well it just doesn’t grab me like more modern movies do. Which is fine I suppose, but I had a hard time making it through this. Although I will say that the humor in this film is super dry, and it does make me chuckle some, as well as talk about the strains in the middle east we had before The Gulf War.

Acting: The Acting in A Yank In Libya is actually pretty good. It Isn’t going to win any awards, but it does a pretty good job at showing how things are elsewhere, just without the diverse cast. The cast stayed in character and never did something that seemed out of the realm of what the character would do.

Storyline: The Storyline in this film is simple “an American reporter discovers that Nazi’s are supplying guns to support and uprising in Libya and things do not go as intended after finding a gun with German markings all over it” For a 1940’s film, this plot is pretty impressive. It is fairly thick for a plot back in the day, and well it’s impressive. The thing that really hurts this film is the short run time. It could of done with a hour and a half, but we got what we got, and it hurts it a little. I feel that a lot could of happened in the film, that it doesn’t get to do, even though the film does alright on its own.

Musical Score: There is decent music from this film. It fits okay enough, without being over or under powering. They use music to fill dead air which is nice Compared to Texas Terror. I won’t say the music is ground breaking or anything of the sort, but it does seem very nice when you do have it, it’s typically subtle and you don’t usually notice, but if a movie doesn’t have it, you take note as soon as you feel it should have had some.

Fights, Guns Or Otherwise: There are a couple of fights that happen, and they’re old timey, so there isn’t a ton of real action, and it’s sped up footage that makes it seems like things carry weight and actual impact. The words part of this is, for the time, relatively strong language and insulting, and verbal lashes are indeed handed out.

Excitement: Some excitement does happen on occasion, but it is mostly a glass cannon, meaning that the beginning of the film is pretty full on raging of excitement, while the rest of the film, loses that effect. It tries hard to make you excited, with music, scenes, and dialog, but it just doesn’t quite reach that mark. That being said The interest level was moderate throughout for me at least.
Tension: So this is different category than usual, and that’s because I think this movie, while old, showcased a decent way of showing tension through out the whole movie. It holds you hostage as to whose side anyone is on, and makes for a great part of the movie. The problem is, that they never translated the tension into much action, and it suffers quite a bit for it.

Nudity: This is a 1940’s film, so no there wasn’t any, but there was a belly dancer, so I mean it was “Wholesome Christian Fun” but you get the idea.

Desert Scenes: The Desert scenes are nice and from what I can tell, authentic and luscious, makes me almost want to live in the desert. It was fun to watch it all happen.

Logic: The logic in the film is pretty good, some people, before WW2 actually thought the Nazi’s were bad and made them to look bad on film, without making it a complete smear campaign. Things tie up nicely at the end, and work out pretty well in the end. This movie can’t predict the future though, so this movie at this time and age seems a little strange, but you have to actually follow history to see where things started, so you can see where they lead.

So is this movie worth a watch? No not really, unless you are into old timey movies or you prefer black and white film, but otherwise I’m pretty sure there isn’t a good reason to watch this movie that I am aware of (I’m no expert) but if you do, for some reason watch this movie, it won’t kill you. All in all is scored 57.5% which isn’t bad at all. I Probably won’t ever watch this again though, or it’s “Sequel” movies either. Until next time!
