Bird
Box is a 2018 Horror, Drama, Sci-Fi Film starring Sandra Bullock. Its
total Run Time is two hours and four minutes. It was requested by
Grant Thomas. It is streaming on Netflix if you are wondering. Let’s
see if it’s any good shall we?
Interest:
The movie and idea is super interested. The idea is perhaps not brand
spanking new, but it is new enough to bring a smile on my face and
wonder what is happening. It’s dark, gripping, and until now
honestly plays on a fear I didn’t know I had. It’s something I
think if you’re willing to sit through, totally going to grip your
interest!
Acting:
The acting is pretty solid. No jarring actions from characters that
make you go “Huh, That seemed odd.” or anything of the sort. The
cast is solid and work together well. I thoroughly enjoyed Everyone's
work in the movie (Including Machine Gun Kelly’s) and thought they
all were excellently casted and made it a very enjoyable experience.
Storyline:The
short and sweet of the story is this: whatever bad version of
religion you believe, has come to earth as an invisible entity, and
is causing havoc and pandemonium everywhere. This being said, the
story is a survival trope. All the characters fit well in the story
and make sense for what’s going on, from a drug user, a cop,
someone who is just depressed and hating it, to a spoiled brat, to an
ex marine, and a lawyer, and even a Judas. It does this trope very
well and it holds its own very well.
Drama:
Drama (as much as I may not watch these movies because drama to me
usually in my mind involves romance and stupid nit picking bickering)
in this film is pretty fantastic. It along with the tension and fear,
is something that really moves the story along. The drama also adds
tension by seeing if people will not jump from a verbal attack to a
physical one. And even trying to be someone your not, because in a
world of originally 7 billion people, now there's maybe on a few
thousand left, some of which you still can’t stand. There is
growing of people and seeing them at highs and lows, just in very
quick succession, which really stinks, but if we did it the right
way, this movie would be probably six hours long.
Fights,
Guns Or Otherwise: The verbal fights and remarks are pretty fantastic
as our main character (Who is played by Sandra Bullock) Takes no shit
and is blunt and crass (Crass is in lacking sensitivity. Not lacking
intelligence or refinement though) and everyone else takes jabs at
each other too. Sometimes the jabs are almost to hilarity. Now the
actual physical grit of the film is pretty up there as well. I’d
say this, if this were to ever be a thing, this is how it’d go
down.
Excitement:
I’d say this film is exciting, maybe even thrilling. The horror,
and having to survive elements in the film are impressive, and
honestly thought provoking. It isn’t your typical everything has
gone to hell movie. You can’t look outside, your eyesight is
incredibly restricted, otherwise very bad things happen. It’s a
thrill the whole way around. It’s gritty and honest, while clearly
being surreal in the whole idea of it. If you watch it you’ll
understand what I mean.
Horror:
I mean I should state this, how we feel about things is subjective,
but this movie makes my skin crawl at the things happening. The movie
is on edge more and more somehow to the point that I at least felt
hopeless and I know this isn’t a real thing happening. If you hate
the idea of truly being alone, and just the world as we know it
suddenly changing how it works, this movie does this so this may or
may not be for you.
Nudity:
There is some nudity in this film, And it really does aid the film in
much anyway besides the fact that it was a comedic break up that was
needed in order to scare you a little later. Otherwise besides that
one time I don’t believe there is any other nudity and it isn’t
that bad either.
Gore:
Now the blood and guts don’t fly all the time in this film, but it
strategically places where these will be, after long bouts of fear
and intensity, it’ll just be a quick spurt there, or a shot or
stabbing here, but then it goes, nearly kill crazy, and then reigns
it back in, as if that was the climax for gore. That being said it is
a moderate, to maybe to much gore, so if that isn’t your thing,
stay away,, otherwise Gorehounds and non squeamish will probably
enjoy the gore work.
Logic:
The logic in this movie, for a survivalist movie, is honestly pretty
solid. That being said there is one part in which Malory, the main
character needs to make a hard choice, in which someone must look,
and she cops out, which ends in disaster like it should but the movie
was about making sacrifice, and then all of a sudden she didn’t.
But besides this, everything made sense logically, and was an
excellent film.
So
do I recommend this film? Yes I absolutely do! If you want something
that isn’t a remake or a sequel, this piece is imaginative, and
honestly pretty creepy and scary. This is seriously a unique idea
that gave me the creeps. This movie in my opinion proves you don’t
need to show fifty million people dying in gruesome ways to be scary,
just a scary idea is really all. The score the movie got was a 78%
which is pretty high up there. Go give it a watch especially if you
have nothing to do, and like horror movies.
