Bloody Wednesday is a 1987 Horror thriller film. Run time is an hour and thrity-six minutes. A man named Harry is unable to hold a job due to mental Illness, living in an abandoned hotel, and we see a decent of mental illness blurring with reality, and harry turns to violence one the lines been blurred to much. Now let’s see what really happens in this movie.

Interest: This film is interesting because of the descent of madness our main character has. Some of the characters are rigid as can be while some as fluid as the ocean. Some people over act and under act and it’s kinda a wonder to behold such a thing where everyone is all over the place in ability to act and it’s clearly seen. Much happens from scene to scene so it will keep your attention pretty well.

Acting: The acting in Bloody Wednesday is a mixed bag. The main character was casted well and definitely carries the film, and does so well, while supporting actors and actresses can be real hit or miss. This being said it’s much more hit than miss, which is nice, but sometimes it seems really out of place when some of the people come on screen, because the moment is supposed to be scary or tense, then they seem like a stereotypical city character or something like that. A character that was meant to be in and out type of character, problem is that that person is a moderately important role.

Storyline: The storyline isn’t complicated, which is fine, it doesn’t need to be but it executes the idea to a great extent. It’s a low budget film ( so it seems) but they made it work fairly well for what they had. Things do jump around from time to time but it makes sense for seeing things thorugh the eyes of a crazy guy.

Descent Into Madness: This film shows a rapidly declining mental state, personally very well, in a way I think most people can understand. It may not be medically correct, but it gets the point across, where some visions are violent, some are fun, and some don’t really matter at all, the problem for the person is being able to distinguish reality, from make believe. If you’ve been able to see your whole life, then all of a sudden your vision is given you false readings, how would you know? You accidentally go to church naked, you shoot a hole in a ceiling against potential would be robbers and just general thugs. And all of this is make believe, or maybe, reality? It’s a great as I call mind fuck, and it’s a great one the whole ride!

Fights, Guns or Otherwise: The fights that are in Bloody Wednesday, is mostly a bunch of verbal arguments, with a couple of fight scenes thrown throughout. The arguments that happen I think are pretty realistic in the sense that most people don’t understand mental illness, and would get visibly upset at the mental health problemed person, rather than taking a deep breath and a step back and realize that it’s not there fault and that they are probably scared and feel so alone. The physical fights turn into on foot chase scenes and typically very little violence.
Excitement: The movie is semi exciting, always making you wonder what is going to happen next, but never anything awe inspiring or truly attention grabbing. But what the movie does in excitement is enough to get it by and get you to keep paying attention to it, and isn’t that what a movie is really about?

Horror: The movie is slightly scary on the surface, but the idea of mental illness is terrifying, especially when it’s compounded with mostly being alone and you see things that aren’t there. This movie sets this up very well in this aspect, I wish somehow it was more scary on the surface just as an avid horror movie watcher, but I also understand this isn’t what the film was necessarily going for, and that’s also why most people won’t watch it.

Nudity: There is references to being naked and Harry’s ex wife almost being naked, but no actually nudity, and that’s totally fine, it wouldn’t of added anything, and it wouldn’t of subtracted anything either. I feel like some people would assume this film by the feel would have nudity all strewn about, but alas, this is not the case.

Gore: The opening scene can be a little horrific, and maybe one or two other scenes throughout the film may be a little gory, one other scene really makes this pretty graphic, but really it isn’t that bad and I feel like it wouldn’t of added a whole lot to the movie either, unless mental illness just played a role in it and Harry saw just blood flowing from the walls or something crazy like that.

Logic: The movies logic all fits together, minus maybe a single mistake that was someone in one scene not smoking then the next, smoking. Things logically happened, and while our main character is unstable, he does what I think I would believe a non stable person would do and go through. The movie isn’t a complete Master piece, such as winning a best picture award, but for what it is, it does what it needs to well.

So do I recommend watching this movie? Yes I do, at least once, and I could probably do another watching by the weekend. It has some rewatchability, but it isn’t like Blood Punch for me, where I could ( and did watch it) five times in a two week period and enjoyed all the watchings of it. Bloody Wednesday is a film that Showcases something most don’t really talk about or even to a lesser extent, you don’t see on the big screen. And honestly that’s a real shame. Go give Bloody Wednesday and have a good time!
