A
Boris Karloff movie from 1965. Run time is 1:18. Will it be an
instant classic? A Diamond in the rough? Or a complete Turd? Read and
find out!
Interest:
The Pace of this film, is both fast and slow I feel. Things happen
very quickly but the story moves slowly. Is that actually a bad
thing? A little, not annoyingly so, just something that you may
notice. It tries to do a lot in a short period of time, and I
suppose it goes at the correct pace, it just seems very slow.
Acting:
The acting isn’t modern ( I mean the movie is from 1965) SO don’t
expect the acting you know. That being said though, it is very good
and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Everyone acted their parts well without
over selling it much.
Storyline:
The storyline makes sense, but it is slow as can be, which is
supposed to build tension but honestly it really didn’t keep my
attention, almost at all. I became invested in the story, but it
didn't hook you in almost at all, you the viewer have to bring
yourself to want to watch it, which is a real shame, maybe that’s
partly on me, but I still feel like the movie didn’t pull its
weight in captivating me.
Screams
Of Terror: Throughout this film, there were many times in which
someone or something screamed. The screams were never comical, and
always used for good effect. They fit well and definitely set the
tone that this movie had, plus with the musical score, I really liked
the screams of terror.
Fights,
Guns or Otherwise: Actual fights are far and few between, but as with
most movies, it’s the words, the dialogue that keeps things moving.
And boy does this film do that, and pretty well I might add. Sharp
tongues seems to be bountiful in this flick, and it’s honestly for
good reason in conjunction with the storyline and what is going on.
Otherwise like I said not much in action happens at all.
Excitement:
Honestly, this film isn’t very exciting, even the parts that are
supposed to be exciting, while done well, just don’t get you to go
“Yeah!” even in your head. It lessens the dull I suppose, but it
doesn’t pull it out of the slump the movie puts itself in so early.
Horror:
Besides the makeup in this film, nothing is really scary. Even if you
put yourself in their shoes, I’d still be pretty hard pressed to
say its actually scary, or real horror. That being said if you have
young kids or someone who is absolutely terrified of most movies,
this would be a fun one to watch with them to see how they handle
other movies (Kids) or to not make someone wet themselves (Kids and
adults alike)
Nudity:
This being a 1960’s film, there is no nudity, some kissing, and
love but no nudity. And that as per most of my reviews, is a totally
okay thing. Although it would have been at least a positive in some
aspect, considering the rest of this film is pretty forgettable.
Gore:
The gore in this film is pretty lacking in gore, but the makeup on
the people is kinda grotesque and that definitely helps the movies
situation on gore, but not nearly enough to make it a good mark. And
even if not on a score system, it just isn’t gory at all.
Logic:
The logic is semi sound, but some of the characters somehow don’t
notice something that is right in front of them, or can’t put the
bridge between the small gap in logical thinking in this film. I do
know it was a different time, but really, like the female lead was
written as if she was not supposed to be able to think, to be a true
airhead.
Summary:
I don’t feel like I need to be coy with this one. I didn’t like
it, really at all, besides it was pretty to look at. I won’t
suggest this unless you’re going to have a movie night and like
ripping into movies and making jokes, or like I said earlier, someone
likes Halloween but hates scary movies, this is a film they could
watch and be able to handle themselves. The film got a 50/100. I
really don’t recommend this in the slightest.
