Office
Uprising is an action, comedy, horror film made is the current year
of 2018. Run time is an hour and twenty-four minutes. That being said
zombie ideas haven’t died and while this idea is unique, it isn’t
fantastic, A military arms manufacturer makes a super substance for
soldiers to stay alert and well for days, the bad batch the first
made made zombies, and the office workers at the arms plant are now
“zombies” and a few people want to make it out alive. So let’s
dive in shall we?
Interest:
So while on the surface this film sounds pretty darn interesting,
Office Uprising is a slow burner (not in a good way) and when it
finally does start getting entertaining, it becomes only interesting
when certain people are on screen, and that is bad, because that
means only certain times there is tension, or a comedy bit, and that
really drags this film down quite a bit. You have one or two
charecters that typically end up in movies like this (Karan Soni and
Alan Ritchson) but otherwise to my knowledge of random movie
watching, most of the other people in this film are either new, or
people I’ve never heard of. And
not to say that they were bad, it could very well of been the script,
but it made it hard to keep watching while my mind just keeps
wandering to anything else that may call for my attention, or for me
to google some random idea I had.
Acting:
The acting in the movie was pretty average, it wasn’t fantastic and
it wasn’t just a stick in the mud either, it was amusing, but just
in the sense of someone talking slightly louder than they need to to
talk to you, not quite yelling just a loud talk, and then after the
conversation you go “Wow, that was interesting” and then go on
with your day. That being said it at least has some value with the
characters in the film being kind of interesting and have a little
bit of depth to them, not enough to wonder what happens after the
movie, but it pushes itself through to the end.
Storyline:
So the storyline, while not something brand spanking new, is at least
kind of funny, where it does get the movie going, is partially a
funny one poking fun at things like energy drinks and almost being
like Brondo for Idiocracy, and also using the old zombie trope to
make something semi-fresh that was a fun thought experiment, but what
hopefully was on paper, I don’t think was fully realized on the
screen.
Intensity:
Some of the hype that happens before a fight in Office Uprising, can
be intense, but sadly the steam runs out quickly as the fights never
last long. That being said, intensity doesn’t carry almost at all
from scene to scene, making you almost question what happened and not
make it feel like there is necessarily a true urgency for anything,
and it isn’t the comedic effect that is ruining it, it’s just
tension flees from scene to scene.
Fights
Guns or otherwise: this is the one (Real) category where this film
shines honestly. The fights while sometimes quick, are entertaining
and fun and makes you want to keep going on, but it only can do it so
much. Office Uprising tries to use this as a way to push through the
sludge, and it works, but it isn’t pretty or nice, the rest of the
film really makes these excellent stand out points, but also
showcases the major flaws of this film and how it is pretty empty as
a whole.
Excitement:
Most of the excitement is made in the fights and a couple of small
jump scares we get. But it never becomes thrilling, it doens;t have
any large defining moments, anything to really grip you and make you
go “WOW!” it had a moment or two that was better than the rest
but it won’t get your heart pumping, either from fear or
excitement.
Energy
Drinks Consumed: This is where the movie excelled the best, was
energy drink consumption, and while this might be a cheat category to
pump it’s numbers up (Rating honestly doesn’t matter you’re
going to watch what you want to watch) it did show lot’s of energy
drink consumption, and I mean at least the can looks cool!
Nudity:
There was no nudity in this film, it doesn’t harm nor hurt it
really, but I certainly feel like if you watch this film, you’d
think that there should have been one, because it feels like one of
those movies that has boobs in it for the sake of boobs.
Funny:
The movie is a bit of a comedy, and it’s supposed to be, but the
humor becomes so muddled in everything else that the humor gets mixed
in with the rest of the muddled mess. I did chuckle a few times, but
not as much as a was expecting. But it was tickle your funny bone
better than mine.
So
how does this movie fair? Should you watch it? Honestly, not really,
if you’re trying to watch someones filmography, sure then finish
it, and if you like ripping into movies as well, then go make fun of
it, but if you’re bored, just got off work on a Monday night and go
“Should I watch Office Uprising?” That answer from me is a fairly
stiff no. It even scored a 47% in my scoring system, which is pretty
bad, I think the worst yet, and it just wasn’t that pleasant to me.
Watch if you’d like to.
