Texas Terror is a 1935 old west film Starring John Wayne. The movie is quite short at just under fifty-two minutes. It is a Action Adventure Drama. This was a fairly early John Wayne film. Let’s see how it fairs?

Interest: The movie for being so short, feels like it’s double it’s run time. It is slightly interesting but keeps itself very reserved the whole time. It can be interesting in parts, but as a whole, just isn’t that interesting of a movie.

Acting: The acting in Texas Terror is pretty good. John Wayne is a little less like himself in later years, and that’s okay to an extent, it also shows John Wayne is a one Dimensional actor, but what he did, he did well. Everyone else in the film is pretty solid also, no one carries the movie specifically, everyone does their part.

Storyline: In short, John Higgins (John Wayne) is a sheriff, thinks he killed his friend, gives up being a sheriff, becomes a desert wanderer, then finds his friends daughter and helps her with her dads farm, and falls for her. A fairly typical old west tale. Is it bad? No, hell it may of originated them for all I know, but it’s nice to see that your John Wayne movies don’t get much more complicated, which is a curse and a blessing. A curse because you don’t see a more complex version of John Wayne. A blessing because you know what to expect every time.

Musical Score: There is no background music, but the film does have a musical number or two in it, and they’re okay, but not ground breaking, and really good, it isn’t ear destroying, it’s just, meh.

Fights Guns Or Otherwise: The gun fights in this film are okay. They set things up that future generations will use, but they’re really short, and not very thrilling. I think that is to character development and how uninvested we are in the characters. This being said, some of the scenes with dialogue cut through characters like hot knives though butter. It is pretty impressive the dialogue that is said, especially from female characters.

Excitement: There isn’t much excitement in Texas Terror, which is a real shame. I am trying to give it credit since it is 1935, and it’s a John Wayne movie, but it just doesn’t grab me, it doesn’t make me go “Wow! I want to do that. That’s so cool!” or anything of the like. I sit here barely becoming intrigued, which I wish I was doing more than that, but it is just so bland, it’s really sad.

Adventure: Really there isn’t much adventure in this film at all. There are a couple of moments that really bring to life even the idea of adventure. One near the beginning, and several little ones towards the end. It really didn’t do it’s job at conveying an adventurous lifestyle or anything unless you were maybe a young kid. As an adult, the magic really isn’t there to see the wonderment of adventure in the movie, even while using my imagination.

Nudity: This is a 1930’s flick man, Like there’s any nudity, NEXT!

Desert Scenes: There are a few desert scenes in the film, and many other outdoorsy scenes that really make it feel like they’re in the old west. Indians (Native Americans) are present and even make friends with John Higgins. I felt like Minus color in this picture, that I was pretty much in the old west.

Logic: In Texas Terror, the logic seems sound, no blaring mistakes, nothing that is unsettled by the end. No unique twists or brain teasers, movie is upfront and honest with it’s intentions and does well at leaving you with a whole experience with no loose ends.

So How do I feel about this movie? It’s barely okay I’d say. It isn’t a film in which I’d think even die hard John Wayne fans would pass up. It’s incredibly slow, not exciting, lot’s of dead air between shots, and just isn’t a fun movie to watch. I mean it isn’t unwatchable (very few movies are) but I would say that you can completely skip this movie unless you’re trying to watch everything John Wayne is in. Otherwise skip this movie and go watch pretty much anything else. This movie isn’t even really a moving you can make fun of, nothing is inherently wrong with it, besides that in truth it is very boring, and makes me really kind of sad for itself. The score is 47.5% which without me digging through my archives, is the lowest scored film I have on here to date, and it really shows. Until Next time.
