The Green Inferno is a 2013  Adventure Horror thriller starring Lorenza Izzo,  Ariel Levy, and Daryl Sabara (Daryl being the young red headed Juni Cortez from the Spy Kids films) The movie runs an hour and fourty-two minutes. Let us see if this movie is worth a watch shall we?

Interest: This movie starts off slow as a almost bad college movie (Like people at college) and slowly turns into a semi interesting movie. The movie takes about a third of its run time to become interesting or anything at all really. It finally does get interesting and honestly after it does, it is (for me at least) hard to turn away, you just have to make it through the initial slog, and then you get yourself an okay movie.

Acting: The acting in The Green Inferno is pretty solid, character archetypes exist and stay in their respective areas. No one is a stronger actor than anyone else, and I think everyone does their job well enough to make this believable. They’re all young 20 year old's trying to make a difference in the world.

Storyline: The storyline really is that a bunch of college kids are in a group and want to try and help change the world. The problem is, in the movie God just kicks them in the dick and things go very south very quick with tribes and many other things not going their way. I think for what it is, the storyline holds up and most people won’t be going “So why didn’t they do this or that.” type of thing, but if you’re looking for a story filled adventure, this isn’t it.

Humor: Humor is a blessing in this film, because when it happens, it has broken up the monotony that is the slow pace of this film. The film while pacing does get better as I eluded to earlier, still isn’t incredibly fast paced, or even thrilling for that part, but it does throw a joke it right before you go “UGHHHHH!”. But the jokes are just slightly funny, nothing memorable.

Fights, Guns Or Otherwise: The violence in the film is typically very quick on the physical front, and the verbal lashings tend to be straight and to the point without much rebuttal.

Excitement: There is not much excitement in this movie, pretty much at all, it is a little tense, sure, but it isn’t like gripping, I’m not at the edge of my seat drooling and just drawn in, I’m a watcher of this film, never drawn in, but still stuck watching the movie as it goes by. There are some moments that shine in excitement and intensity, but really this movie tries to drag you along, even though the path is mundane and boring.

Horror: I wouldn't say this movie is really a horror film. I’d say an adventure movie, with some terrible mishaps, and if these things that happen in the movie plague your mind, then it will be scary, but to me, it doesn’t strike fear into me, or at least resonate within me enough to pull the Fight or Flight cords within me.

Nudity: There is slight nudity in this film, some breasts and a near full penis. Does it help the movie? The boobs slightly do in the context in which they are shown, the penis not really but it is kind of funny in the context in which we see it. All in all there is nudity, and if you are not into that, well I guess youre not watching this.

Gore: There is a ton of gore in this film, from just a small river of blood, to people being dismembered. If you’re a gore hound you will enjoy this movie for these moments. Otherwise if vomit, blood and eyeballs and tongues being off a human body isn’t your thing, or cannibalism, definitely side step this one.

Logic: The logic in the movie is fair. It doesn’t have on the surface any glaring weaknesses, but one character is a bit more unfeeling than the others, which is possible, but I don’t think people entirely work quite like that character does. Otherwise it seems pretty average, not pushing the boundaries at all besides in the gore department.

So would I suggest watching this movie? Not really. It does explore the idea of genital mutilation in a “Horror” film setting and talks about it to some extent. Problem is, it gets muddled in everything else that happens in the film, and while the end tries to save its speech on saving people and the environment, it is honestly to lost in the film. And that’s sad because it tries to spark an idea, but it’s tossed to the wayside for bad horror, and a heap of gore. I’m not saying I don’t like those things, but this movie I think had a much better purpose to it, if it wouldn’t of tried to spread itself to do so much. Score wise it is a 61.5% which isn’t terrible, but isn’t highly regarded either. If you want to take a chance on a mediocre movie, this movie may do it, but otherwise, this movie is pretty irrelevant. Until Next Time!
