Quick
Summary:
Kid
gets bullied, kid has birthday, kid gets Magic kit, makes friend with
kid, become big stars. Have a good run, new stranger talent shows up
not unlike Criss Angel, and shakes up the whole magic scene.
Interest:
It isn’t bad, it’s a slow burner of a comedy, which can be good
if there are large payoffs, but this is very few small payoffs.
Acting:
I mean It’s pretty good and it isn’t a blockbuster, or like the
Leonardo DiCaprio or anything, But the movie does have well named
actors in it, and never seems to break character or no intentional
goofs.
Storyline:
The storyline is fair. It has a story, tells it, has some light
banter to it, a little side plot or two, and wraps it up in a unique
odd way, that only a movie about magicians could.
Funny:
as I said it is a slow burner, and few jokes, but some of the jokes
are pretty solid and made me laugh quite a bit in the second half.
Fights
Guns or otherwise: Fights happened, mostly emotional and verbal, with
some breaking of bones on an accidental mess up. It’s not so bad. I
mean it’s a comedy, not a horror or saw movie or Expendables 3.
Excitement:
The movies was exciting, seeing these tricks happen was aww inspiring
assuming you don’t know how they work, and they blended some nice
CGI in with the real tricks and it really was a cool fairly exciting
thing, considering the movie genre.
Number
of fake out pity moments: So this is clearly a joke category, but
during the movie there are fake out moments where I really thought I
was going to see a cringey bad stupid scenes where I’d want to turn
off the film, and a couple of times I did pause it to recompose
myself. But all in all it wasn’t bad.
Nudity:
There was no nudity, and that’s fair, while some things (like
horror movies) tend to do nudity because nudity, comedy can also fall
into this trap as well. Luckily this one didn’t and would of it
been nice? Maybe. But the real question is was it necessary? And that
answer is a big no.
Gross
Factor: I mean here are some cuts and as I alluded to earlier, broken
ankles, that happen in the film, but nothing super gross or
disgusting.
Logic:
The movie made sense, there were no blaring holes in the story or
anything. It doesn't make you think, but that is sometimes something
we need in our lives, we need an escape, and just be lost for awhile.
But all in all it all is intact and works.
So
this movie stars Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, and Jim Carrey. I have
been wanting to watch more of Jim Carrey’s Filmography, and wanted
to start with something relatively new, and it was a great
experience. It was more a Steve Carell film, I’ll be honest, but it
still had some decent Jim Carrey time, and you could almost see a
glimpse of his former self, the one that made your child hood happy.
I would recommend as a watch, but I really doubt this warrants a
rewatch after you do watch it. Score is 51 Out of 100, which sounds
bad, but honestly worth a go.
