Bunraku is a 2010 action, drama, fantasy film that is fairly star studded, including the likes of Ron Perlman, Woody Harrelson, Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Kevin McKidd, and many others. The movie has a run time of two hours and five minutes. It’s set in a dystopian time, but I don’t think on Earth, in our reality. Let’s take a look at this fine film shall we?

Interest: This film kept my interest pretty well, and if you’re going to watch it, you’re going to need to have interest in it, as well as paying attention, because if you miss something, you will be going back and trying to figure out what in god’s green Earth is going on. But I think it makes it pretty easy to pay attention, and keep interest in this film.

Acting: The acting in the movie is pretty stellar! From the choreography for the fights, to the way people talk and act, is all fantastic. No body seems casted in a role they weren’t meant to be in. On top of that, I feel almost like I’m somehow magically a part of the movie, just teatering on the edge of reality and fiction.

Storyline: The storyline is pretty solid with the gist of it being “A world without guns, a “cowboy” and a samurai with no sword team up to defeat a crime boss that owns the east of the Atlantic.” That all being said, seems much lamer than what really goes on, but it is a bit difficult to explain the finer details (plus it’d cause spoilers) so you’ll have to watch it for yourself to figure out the rest!

Visuals: The visuals in this movie are not ground breaking, but interesting, fun and beautiful. It’s a wonderful blend of comic books, pop up books, comic book movie visuals, and a regular movie. Whoever had this masterpiece though up, is a damn genius in this category. It sounds like just some mashup of random ideas, but it flows well, transitions are silky smooth, not like chunky peanut butter. And it is just so nice to see such things happening altogether, and not feel like it was forced, or just shoved in because “we need it!”

Fights, Guns Or Otherwise: There are many fights, mostly physical, and damn are they a fun thing to watch, the choreography makes the fights, fun, while not making it overly technical. But besides the wonderful fights in this film that are in the form of physical violence, there is some verbal throw downs as well that make the mark as well. Some of it plot driven, and some of it in the heat of battle, but all of it excellent!

Excitement: The excitement of this film is pretty high up there. The movie I won’t say drips excitement, but with the tension it adds, it keeps passing well and between that and some of the comedy the movie has, it keeps things fresh and fun all the way through to the end. It just rides like you’re in a dune buggy in some rugged sand dunes, bumpy but nothing that you can’t handle, but every once in awhile, dust picks up you can’t see clearly, but it adds some danger and thrill into the ride. If you watch it, you’ll understand what I mean.

Audio: The audio in this film is very good. Nearly perfect I’d say. The music blends with the noises and sounds going on withing the music and almost seem as if they were composed with the noises going on in mind when the music was made. Everything made a noise that should of. My only major complaint is that in my copy I had, it had a problem where the volume got quieter and louder throughout the movie so I did have to adjust my volume a lot, especially for Ron Perlman talking, but besides that the movie was in my opinion, flawless in the audio department.

Nudity: There is no nudity that I saw in this film, closest thing you see is Demi Moore, scantily clothed in a scene or two, but nothing full blown shown. Does it hurt or help the film? No It’s pretty neutral. It doesn’t hurt the film, but I don’t really see how it would of helped either.

Gore: Their is a fair share of gore in this film. Almost every death has some sort of blood to it, but nothing outlandish like crazy dismemberments or blood fountains found in some other films. This all being said, I think gore hounds will appreciate this film, as well as regular movie goers. It is gruesome enough, but not so gruesome and over the top that it makes people feel ill.

Logic: The logic in Bunraku is pretty solid besides perhaps a continuity error or two, the rest of the film seems pretty solid, nothing seems to out of place, They never really explain why guns become a thing humanity forgets, but it seems almost like its an alternative history piece where guns weren’t so prevalent, and so we saw what they’d do, and just went back to the old way of doing things, with anything else at our disposal.

So do I recommend this movie? Oh Yes! So much yes it is painful! The only reason why I would say to not watch this movie is if you are not old enough to watch it, or you hate the actors in it, or just hate the type of movie it is. But if you like Kill Bill style films, with a more comic book vibe, go watch it, enjoy yourself, even if it may be two hours of your time, you deserve it! My score is and 85.5% and it deserves every single bit of it! Go find Bunraku at a bargain bin or pawn shop and watch it, it is honestly worth it! Or be a sane person and buy it on Itunes or Google Play.
