Cherokee Creek is a
2018 horror comedy film. The movie stars Billy Blair ( he was in
Machete, and The Last Stand), Todd Jenkins (He was Ash in Macguyver,
otherwise his big claim to fame is this movie) and Olivia Sabini
(Known for Scandal Made me Famous, Starwatch, and Murder Made Me
Famous) the movies run time (I have the Final Cut Version) is one
hour and fifty-six minutes. The quick summary of this film is “A
few friends kidnap another friend for a bachelor party out in the
woods, and unknown to them, a large party animal is out there
waiting.” Also as a fun fact Todd Jenkins reached out to me (the
one I mentioned above) to review this so I’d like to say Thank you
and no hard feelings.
Interest: Interest
in this movie is lacking in about half the movie, which for a near
two hour film, is painful and not what most people want. That being
said the second half becomes comically funny and even awkwardly
funny, which for me pulled me in so much,
Acting: this films
acting is all pretty…. Meh is the best way I can describe it. It
isn’t outright terrible like a Birdemic movie, but it isn’t quite
even a “Classic” B movie (Think like the original Evil Dead, or
like Rocky Horror Picture Show) it falls somewhere in the middle of
these two things, where these people have been clearly trained
actors, but they don’t have a smooth way of acting, or a way to get
lost in their character fully. They still are themselves wearing a
shell of a character it seems. And it really hurts the film, but
doesn’t make it unwatchable.
Storyline: The
storyline for this film is lacking to say the least. The beginning of
the film starts out feeling like crime film, where the burglars are
about to break into someones home, and then all of a sudden it’s
nearly a stereotypical bachelor party movie, which is fine, but it
wasn’t set up for that without reading the summary on IMDB. That
being said, the second half of the movie isn’t bad at all, but the
one character that’s really annoying and talks about how things
aren’t real, is just plain annoying and I wish he would of died
before the movie started, but his death in movie is totally justified
and warranted.
Intensity: The
movies intensity is okay. It has a small bit of intensity in the
beginning of the movie, but teeters off for quite a while, and near
the end it is nearly all intensity, with some comedic moments also. I
think it fits the film alright in intensity, but doesn’t quite nail
it down completely either.
Fights Guns or
Otherwise: The fights in this film, are okay at best. The verbal
quips and bickering is what really makes it for this category,
because until ¾ of the film, and even some past this. But the
physical fights are very limited to a punch or swipe or two, and
that’s about it. it’s a real shame because I thought this and
gore would hold up a little better.
Nudity: There is
quite a bit of nudity both male and female, including seeing a full
fledged dick. Like no censoring, no fake thing, it is a real dick and
honestly might make some jaws drop, that also being said, there are
boobs and a strip club (for the ladies) shown in the film as well.
None of it was necessary or warranted, but it was fun, and even a
little funny.
Comedy: The Comedy
in this film was alright, it wasn’t spectacular, and wasn’t
dissapointing, right in the weird spot where you wish it was funnier,
or much less funny to be more serious. I don’t have much else to
say about it, but I think it was poorly done comedy.
Horror: The horror
elements where pretty lacking in the movie. It was very bland and
cookie cutter in the idea, the scope, and the ferocity of horror. I
don’t think I ever really felt scared. I was most scared when the
guys soon to be wife is on screen, and that’s because she’s
screaming and yelling for him and being in such bad relationships
such as those, I felt for him.
Gore: The gore in
the film isn’t bad at all, its actually one of the few redeeming
qualities about this film. That being said there isn’t a ton of it,
so most gore hounds will be disappointed, but for casual movie goers,
this film is mild enough in this department that you’ll enjoy it
still. The realism I think is lacking, but the amounts are fun and
creepy.
Logic: The logic in
this movie was also very bad. The storyline logically made sense, but
people in generally don’t really seem real. Or maybe aspects of
them don’t. Not saying people like this don’t exist, but the
characters actions and thoughts just seemed not very good. Have an
asshole friend that you see once in a blue moon and most people find
him insufferable? Don’t fucking invite him on a bachelor party
night. Or make the reason why he’s coming is that you ran into him
grabbing booze or something. And the ability to fight anything at all
by any of the characters in the movie was lacking at best, as if all
you’ve done in your life is work a desk job, maybe you ran and did
track in high school but right after that you didn’t do much of
anything physical. It’s things like this that make me really kinda
dock this film.
So, do I recommend
this film? No not really. Unless you and some friends are going to
crack open some brews (or if you’re not into brews, so pop or soda)
and want to rip into this film, I think personally that’s the only
way you will have some fun with this movie. Otherwise you’re going
to watch this, and about 30 minutes in, and turn it off, and then
watching nearly anything else because this thing isn’t worth your
time. The total score is 59.5/100 Not the worst film ever, but
definitely not great. Until Next time.
