Creep 2 was released
in 2017, and is the sequel to Creep (2014) that I also recently
reviewed. It is also a horror and thriller movie. Creep 2’s run
time is one hour and eighteen minutes. Two new faces in the film are
Karan Soni (Known for Deadpool and Deadpool 2, Safety Not Guaranteed,
and Office Christmas Party) and Desiree Akhavan (Known for
Appropriate Behaviour, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, The
Bisexual, and The Slope). Typically sequels aren’t as good as the
first, but Let’s see how this one fairs shall we?
Interest: Creep 2 is
just as interesting as the first. You still have the POV, but the way
this movie plays out is different, we get to see inside the killers
mind a little more, and see someone who is nearly disconnected from
emotions as well. The movie is creepy, still has awkward moments, but
all in all is intriguing to ones mind enough that most people who
watch it will turn it on and not turn it off until the end.
Acting: Acting again
was a high point of the film. It was funny, real, gritty, and a
little strange. I’m not trying to drop too many details about the
movie, but the killer I think personally steals the show. All In all
I would say the acting in Creep 2 is a nice breath of fresh air,
where the actors are having to think on their feet to make a good
scene. It’s really a thrill.
Storyline: The
Storyline differs a bit in Creep 2, and I think that is nice instead
of most other horror movies, they crank the dial from 10 to 20, with
silly and outlandish things happening. Creep 2 took it in a more of a
memoir of a serial killer idea. Having him do a documentary almost to
get to know him better was a great way to change things up in the
movie.
Intensity: The film
again does a great job at using intensity as a thing to lull your
sense of security, to let it in and then scare you. It makes you
really think about helping people out on Craiglist and things of that
nature. I won’t say it is quite as intense as the first one, but it
is still a intense and fun ride.
Fights, Guns or
Otherwise: The fights in this movie are I think an upgrade from the
original Creep. A Fight happens at the very beginning of the movie
and there is arguing and scuffles throughout the whole movie. Verbal
lashings are abundant and fun, and also makes the movie a little
humorous. The physical and mental fights seem almost matched in the
movie between our antagonist and protagonist, as the bite each others
heads off regularly.
Nudity: As I said on
The first film there was no need for nudity, and somehow in Creep 2
They actually made a need that doesn’t seem out of place. Both a
man and a woman do get naked to show that there are no boundaries
between director and subject, and it was tasteful and made sense in
the movie.
Horror: Creep 2 I
think is less scary than the original, mostly because while the jump
scares don’t pay off as well I suppose, and almost become comedic,
and there isn’t enough going on to truly scare you until the very
end, unlike the original, where things just became creepier and
creepier, this one is much more a hill where it isn’t then it is,
then it isn’t again, and it happens through out the whole movie.
Gore: There is some
gore in this film, not enough to fill a swimming pool, but enough to
make up for the first film and really no blood or guts anywhere. I’d
say there is a realistic amount of blood that happens throughout the
movie and it will satisfy most peoples want of blood and gore.
POV: The POV of the
camera work again is excellent. I like the hand offs between the
protagonist and antagonist of the camera to shoot certain things from
their view, but it happens in real time which makes it organic and
fun. I am still impressed with the camera work and the idea of a
documentary style of horror like this.
Logic: The logic is
a litte better in Creep 2 than in the original Creep. No cops are
called, and while dumb in its own right, it is understandable when
you watch the movie. After that everything fits together like a
puzzle, and is logically sound and fun still. There is one part near
the end that may be a gripe, but I’ll let you find that one on your
own.
So Would I recommend
this movie? At least as much as the first one, if not more so. The
only reason that I am wouldn’t suggest it, is to not ruin the first
one, and I mean this is a sequel, and while it may not delve very
hard into the sequel, these things in the movies definitely happened
a certain way. My score for the film is 83.5% which is pretty darn
high. For being a fairly unknown movie, I highly recommend it for all
of you that have Netflix. Until Next Time!
