Dead Ant Review

Dead Ant is a 2017 adventure comedy with some horror elements in it (be it the trashy parts or not). Its run time is one hour and twenty-seven minutes.
It stars Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings fame as Sam) Natasha Blasick (was in Paranormal Activity 2) and Tom Arnold ( In True Lies, Sons of Anarchy, and Roseanne) It’s a not well known movie (saw it at Walmart for $10 bucks though) as on IMDB it has 224 reviews in total. The quick summary is “ A one hit wonder band embark on a trip in hope of rekindling the magic again, get some special peyote, and all things go wrong after, and how will they save themselves both musically, and their lives?’ So let’s see how this movie pans out, shall we?

Interest: The movie is interesting, having a rock and roll band try to recapture their former glory, while doing drugs, partying it up, and trying to get some young tail. This makes for an interesting horror movie idea, that works for this film, but doesn’t truly grab you. I’d say you could probably have this movie in the background and just listen to it, and turn to it when you hear the important parts.

Acting: The acting in this film is honestly mixed. It has some large name actors who are acting well, and then some newbies that are just okay. On a scale that goes from good to bad, it still stays in the good, but no one is making an Oscar worthy performance out of this, and I suppose that’s okay, it is still entertaining and enjoyable

Storyline: The storyline is very minute at best, a few rockstars wanting to recapture their former glory, get high, some Indian curse, and is a horror comedy film. It is a mostly funny film, and if you are an arachnophob, you will find this movie terrifying and possibly not watchable. The storyline is nearly non existent, but what is there keeps the story moving, and you hopefully laughing.

Intensity: For being a B-movie, they can actually get some intensity in the film, which for b-movies, tend to be a rarity that something is done very well. That being said, it isn’t perfect and does miss it’s mark quite a few times, but probably (not sure) to be funny instead of intense or serious.

Adventure: I suppose the film is pretty solid in the adventure category, you are left wondering how this mess that is happening within this film. The whole ride is honestly an adventure for this whole movie. Possibly starts out a little rough, but once it starts it’s a ride you wanna finish.

Fights, Guns, or Otherwise: This is a great film for bickering and bitching. The feud between the band is great, and adds great banter throughout the whole film. And then the physical fights are pretty great. They are entertaining, and funny and hits things in stride all the way around.

Excitement: This category is very slow, and it wasn’t a quarter to half way through the film until it got exciting. Once it gets going it gets going and rides it high until the end. But the lack of excitement at the beginning honestly hurts it and hurts the chance someone who may want to watch it, because most I think, will turn it off.

Drugs Consumed: Well they did a (Presumable) shit load of peyote, and things get pretty crazy, so I mean…. It’s a 10 right?

Nudity: there isn’t much nudity, but it is directly at the beginning, and she is fully nude by the end of the scene. But besides that, there is no nudity. Was it warranted nudity? No probably not, not at all, but I feel like this movie somehow would of missed something without it. The story didn’t need it but the movie did.

Comedy: This movie is very funny, more so than I was expecting. I was expecting some schlock film with cheesy ass jokes, that or jokes that don’t make sense. Luckily all of the jokes make sense and the caliber of jokes differ, but I think they all hit the mark, and at the end something happens that I giggled for a long while.

So, is this movie worth a watch? I say yes, especially with a group of friends you can rip on it, or if you just like B-movies that you haven’t heard of. Personally the whole idea and premise of the film is great to me and I enjoyed all of it. I’m sure this movie will be on the SyFy (SCIFI?) channel as an “Ant Weekend” or something crazy. But all in all I liked it, and the scores are at a whopping 69%, oddly fitting for a film for drugs and rock and roll! Until next time!
