I Still Know What
You Did Last Summer is a 1998 Horror Mystery film. Its run time is
one hour and forty minutes. The Three Top Stars are Jennifer Love
Hewitt (Known for I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Tuxedo,
Heartbreakers, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer), Freddie
Prinze JR. (Known for She’s All That, Scooby-Doo, I Know What You
Did Last Summer, and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed) and Brandy
Norwood (Known for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Moesha,
Osmosis Jones, and The Game). The movie is obviously a sequel to I
Know What You Did Last Summer, but let’s see how it stacks up shall
we?
Interest: Interest
in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (Now going to be abbreviated
to ISKWYDLS) is okay. It is a slow burner, that stays pretty slow
without, although scares and terrible things start to get worse and
worse. But I just find myself not invested in the movie. It feels
like a cheese fest of horror movie tropes than something that has
sustenance. The only time I care is when the killer is on screen
until about half way though the movie which is when things actually
get interesting and you care. But damn is it a slog of a trip.
Acting: I don’t
think the acting is half bad in ISKWYDLS, and everyone seems to be
their own person, own agendas, and seem realistic. I had no trouble
believing anyone in the film. But also they’re one sided mostly,
one guy just wants sex, the other is horrified, the other is just
trying to have fun and the list goes on, no one has depth, and it
really hurts the film in my opinion.
Storyline, The
storyline is actually kind of surprising for the movie, and for a
sequel movie, I didn’t expect it to be a decent story, I thought
it’d be honestly, utter crap. But this movie shows it can at least
pull a story out that is halfway decent, and has even a couple of
twists that I didn’t see coming. This all being said though I feel
like a trip to the tropics with storm season was a poorly thought out
idea, and I understand it for the movie, but I feel like airlines
wouldn’t want to go down there, but I’m no expert.
Intensity: Intensity
was similar to being at a comfortable distance from a bonfire. You’re
just far enough away to feel the warmth without a chill. You aren’t
so close that you’re sweating and wishing you had picked a further
place. So What I’m saying is, it’s intensity is average, and
shouldn’t be to bad for almost anyone besides kids.
Fights, Guns or
Otherwise: Fights that happen in the film are pretty alright, the
hook idea is pretty nice, and the bickering among everyone is strong.
The physical fights are interesting, but nothing to completely ogle
over, but it is entertaining. And as I said the bickering and verbal
shade thrown at each other is pretty frequently, even when in face of
danger.
Nudity: There isn’t
any nudity in the film, and that kind of surprised me. It felt like
it would have a couple in the movie, which is okay in my book. It
doesn’t score any points in this film, but that’s fine. They
could of even used it in a typical horror way I suppose as well, but
in the end no nudity.
Horror: Horror in
this film was lacking, and again because the intensity didn’t get
cranked up, so you weren’t on edge, and malleable to the movies
will of trying to scare, or at least that’s how I felt. I feel like
the horror went through the motions of what you should do, but as a
shallow husk, it felt bland and like it went through the steps
because it had to. It is a real shame.
Gore: Unlike the
original, this film has a lot more gore which is solid, and helps it
redeem some points as a whole. Gore hounds will bejust on the cusp of
being okay with the film, while regular folks will probably think
some of the gore is to over the top.
Mystery:The mystery
in this one is actually good because if you watched the original, you
think you know what is going on in the first one and somehow the
decide that another twist is totally doable, and they do it, and pull
it off well, I had no idea. I was genuinely surprised and don’t
think there was much to lead you to the conclusion.
Logic: Logic in the
film I think was just okay. No cops were contacted in the film or
anything of the sorts. The most they do is get a hotel manager
involved. Otherwise people do arm themselves, and fight back. The bad
guy is smart and tries to plan ahead decently well.
Did I enjoy the
film? It was decent. Do I suggest you watching it? If you saw the
first one, yes. If you haven’t? I suppose you could, a couple
things might be missing for you, but over all everything should work
out in a nearly perfect little package. Plus it’d be fun to put
through the ringer with your friends if you watched it together.
Altogether the score is 47.5% and while this seems unwatchable, it is
just not really a horror movie in my mind. Until Next Time!
