Logan’s Run is a 1976 film. It is an action sci-fi film. Its run time is one hour and fifty-nine minutes long. The three main stars of the film are Michael York (Known for Logan’s Run, Cabaret, Romeo and Juliet, and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) Richard Jordan (Known for The Hunt for Red October, Dune, Logan’s Run, and The Secret of My Success) and Jenny Agutter (Known for The Avengers, Logan’s Run, An American Werewolf in London, and Child’s Play 2) A quick summary of Logan’s Run is “ In a utopia world in the 23rd century, everything is perfect except one thing, once you turn 30, you’re forced to die, or become a runner! If you run, you’re hunted! And one man is tasked leaving the utopia behind to destroy outside Sanctuary!” Sounds alright, let’s see how it turns out!

Interest: I think Logan’s run may be the first movie I’ve reviewed that does a bait and switch of interest. What I mean is, it isn’t a slow burner at first, it is setting up what’s to happen, lots of action happens and things are really interesting, for I’d say the first half of the movie. Then all of a sudden for the next quarter of the film is just exploration, no action at all, and a random naked swim scene in a lake, and the last quarter a mix of action and exploration won’t say I lost interest, but if you’re a movie goer that expects the beginning of a film to be the slow part, you won’t like this one.

Acting: Acting is alright in the film. It seems rigid and just like the people tried to get into character, but didn’t quite grasp what they were doing. And it isn’t a good haha funny way, it is just not quite shown in a way to make me think these actors are their character is real, and that the are suspended in belief.

Storyline: The Storyline is incredibly interesting and is a great thought experiment for the viewer. Would you trade living a long life for a great life? Why are the people just in their own civilization for the outside world? They ask many questions and give few answers which does draw me to the film personally. It makes me wonder about the world so much and what all has happened.

Intensity: The film did well for the intensity role of things. The whole idea of you live until 30 and then you die really is the main focal point for most people in the film, they all have fun, but people run, to try to live. Then the whole leaving and running and trying to discover Sanctuary becomes a whole different intensity. I won’t say I was on edge always but The intensity it brings is welcome and helpful.

Fights, Guns or Otherwise: The fights in Logan’s run are good, if not a bit corny. Guns are fired and people catch on fire from the “lasers”. There are some fist fights that happen and just quick scraps. They’re all fun and entertaining, as well as pertinent to the story. Actual arguments and things are much closer to the Star Trek “Damn it Jim!” style dialogue, so it has some arguments and maybe some tense moments, but it also feels equally cheesy.

Nudity: There is nudity in Logan’s Run. There is at least a single scene where you see a woman naked swimming in a lake, possibly to bathe. And this is relevant because of all the things to break out of their original city (It is unnamed)> I think it is warranted,

Action: I’d say the action in Logan’s Run does well in making you understand the society of the film. I Thoughts the action was also a bit corny, but it was charming and didn’t break my suspension of belief much. Be it intense run scenes, exploring the outdoors or just spitting out a one liner to make you understood. It was good enough for the film

Sci-Fi: So the Sci-fi Elements in the film are pretty great, taking place in the 23rd century, they take great liberties of how we shall live and use all sorts of ideas as to how we will live (Living in giant domes that look like shopping malls on the inside, people just walking all about, dressed in generally 1 of four colors, laser guns, living in a utopia, all knowing computer, etc) it’s nothing too crazy, just enough to make sure you know it’s the future and how things may pan out. And it was an enjoyable ride the whole time.

Drama: There is a lot of drama in the film. From just the culture of people inside the utopia about runners, to girls and guys arguing, to guards arguing, and people literally turning over a new leaf. It does excellently in this category, and honestly makes me wish the rest of the movie was as good as the drama is.

Logic: Logic becomes hard to really define. I mean I think the logic is there, and finally they go outside and realize that it is better to live a long life that may not be perfect, there are apparently no windows in their original home, so they have no idea that there was an outside, no knowledge of the Sun. I find this all hard to really believe, but everyone plays it off that I can't but feel that maybe I’m crazy for thinking the contrary.

So did I like Logan’s Run? Yes. Do I suggest others watch it? Also yes. I think most people can get behind the idea of a utopic place and I’m sure we have all thought of something like this while we were sad, or disgruntled over why things aren’t fair, and this movie addresses it. It’s fun and energetic, even if it runs out of steam at ¾ of the way, but it picks itself up and finishes strong in the end.. And even if you don’t like it, you can watch it and the first Star Wars movie (came out a year later) and see and wonder how a movie just a year apart with near similar budget, can be so vastly different! I give this movie 70%. I think most people have never heard of or seen it, which is fine, but if you have Netflix and have 2 hours to kill, give this hidden gem a watch! Or you and your friends can rip on it. Either way go and watch on Netflix, Until Next Time!
