Streets of Fire is a 1984 film. It is considered an action, crime, drama film. Run time is one hour and thirty-four minutes. The movie stars Michael ParĂ© (Known for Gone, The Virgin Suicides, Streets of Fire, and The Lincoln Lawyer), Diane Lane (Known for Unfaithful, Under The Tuscan Sun, Inside Out, and Man of Steel), and Rick Moranis ( Best known for Parenthood, Spaceballs, Little Shop of Horrors, and Little Brews). That’s right, Rick Moranis is in this film, and he did this one the same year (Right before) Ghostbusters! Also Willem Dafoe is also in this film! The quick summary of the film is “A gun for hire is hired to rescue his ex-girlfriend, who has been kidnapped by a motorcycle gang.” Let’s see how this film is shall we?
Interest: The movie holds my interest well enough. The movie throws action at you pretty readily, plus the dialogue is fun and witty and keeps the movie going as well. I didn’t get distracted while watching the film, but I could see how some would lose interest in it.
Acting: The acting I think is pretty solid, and you get great acting from everyone. No one person is carrying the weight of the movie on their acting shoulders. Every character as a type and they stick to it well, while giving you an enjoyable fun movie to watch. It was also fun to find out that Michael ParĂ© ha a major problem with Rick Moranis behind the scenes, because I guess Rick would make cracks at Michael, and Michael wanted to shove his fist down his throat. So in scenes where Michael’s character has to be rough with Rick’s character, I think it is some anger management for Michael.
Storyline: The storyline is pretty good, no glaring holes, besides the end (The film was supposed to be a trilogy). I think things were well paced and executed at correct times in the film, which makes the film to me work very well, and it stays interesting. Even the love interest part was fun and riveting.
Intensity: Streets of Fire slowly starts with intensity, and things just keep ramping up and up. More or less starts with a fist fight and ends with explosions. The movie also does well for a build up of intensity, which as of recent has been hard to find in a movie.
Fights, Guns, or Otherwise: The fights are excellent in the film. The physical fights feel real, and do well for the scenes they’re in. The verbal lashings that happen from one person to another is also great, with lots of banter and insults among characters. Mental side of things, I don’t think much of anything happened on a mental side, or if it did, it was hidden very well ion the movie.
Nudity: There is no nudity in the film. They could have had some for sake of plot, but understandably this movie, but would of very drastically changed the tone of the film and changed ratings, all sorts of things. This movie while scoring a 0, totally is fine without nudity.
Action: Action is abundant in Streets of Fire. From fight fights to gun fights, to stealing cars, the movie is pretty well packed, but I should also mention the fights is what really carries the film in this category. Stealing of cars does not happen often or frequently.
Crime: Crime is pretty darn high, considering cops are paid off all throughout the movies land. It seems dystopian also with gangs and thugs running the streets, while cops just take bribes and working for the highest bidder.
Drama: Characters evolve, but known more than our protagonist, who starts off being a hard ass that will do anything for a thrill, and then turns into a good guy with a heart of gold. Some of the other characters don’t really evolve over time at all, besides small glimpses of change. Plus the tension of main protagonist and the kidnapped female because of love is something that grinds the characters and makes for good drama as well.
Logic: Logic in the film is good also. Cops are corrupt, so when something needs done, you either pay them, or find the biggest, baddest person you can to do something, and you also have to pay them. We don’t know what lead everything to be this way, but it is, and for the world that is set up I think everything makes sense, plus is fun.
Did I like the movie? Yes I did. Do I recommend this film? Oh Hell Yeah! Honestly I hate that this is a movie that was supposed to be a trilogy, that never happened because it didn’t do well at the box office. The movie was released in the same week as Star Trek III and in the same month as Ghostbusters, Gremlins, and The Karate Kid. And the month before had one other major movie that came out, Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. This movie got lost in a sea of greatness because it is only good. It scores a 78.5%, a fair score. I think it’s more solid than most other movies I’ve watched, so I think it’s a more serious watch than ripping on it, but do with it what you will. Give it a watch however you can!. Until Next Time!
