Ouija Summoning is a 2015 film. It is a horror film. The run time is one hour and thirty minutes. The three main stars of the film are Tara Shayne (Known for Carefree), Marty Drew (Known for Mascots, Liza on Demand, Ready Player One, and Lost Girls: Angie’s Story), and Kristen Hagen (Known for Annabel Lee, Recovery, Material Girls, and Interstellar Wars). The director is Marwan Mokbel (Known for Ouija Summoning, Gayville a Musical, Set Me Free, and Life of Homer). A quick summary of the film is “A woman is haunted by an evil spirit after a game of Ouija board goes very wrong.” Let’s take a look at the categories and dissect this film a little more.
Interest: The interest of this film was lacking, mundane, It was slow, never exciting (even though it tried) and just never makes its way into a film that is intense, fun or good.
Acting: Ouija Summoning had acting that is so lame that I was generally shocked and surprised by how bad it was. I was expecting them to just be boring, but the acting was stiff, sloppy, boring, and dues to bad audio mixing, made it funny when it shouldn’t be. Everyone seemed like they were nervous about the camera being there or something, they just seem so up tight and not comfortable at all.
Storyline: Well to sum it up “Don’t mess with Ouija Boards”. To be broader, this is a very lame and dumb movie, trying to catch in on the craze that is “Ouija boards are mystical/ spiritual, and can summon evil spirits or something to do your bidding or be possessed”. What really would have made the storyline better would have taking the Ouija board out, and just make her have a mental illness, and wished it better (Basically what happens anyway, but with more steps) I have no sympathy for this film at all.
Intensity: There was never any build up, nothing makes you feel like there is something to lose. There is no weight to actions or words, let alone scenes. It is a sad and pathetic attempt in trying to even attempt to show, or have intensity.
Fights, Guns or Otherwise: Physical fights are pretty rare, I only remember one to be completely honest, and it was at the very beginning of the film, otherwise mysterious circumstances cause death to happen in the film. Actual verbal attacks happen fairly frequently, mostly do to the parents being split up and the child ragging on her dad, and her mom defending him. Plus just some love life problems among the teens, makes it be filled with verbal razors. Also, not much is really in a mental anguish sort of way.
Nudity: This film had no nudity, but really felt like there would be nudity strewn all about. That being said, again, I feel like this film could have actually used nudity to just spice up the film in some way. The movie was incredibly boring and dull, and just isn’t good for anything.
Director Score: So to be up front the estimated budget for this film was around $150,000, and it shows. The film is grainy like it was shot in the 90s, no good special effects, acting that was bad, and audio that wasn’t great either. I will say the shots looked nice though, so it does have that going for it, but among the sea of trash that is this film, the shots don’t save it.
Musical Score: The music in the film, is the fairly generic drone tone and violin sound mixed into one for everything that is supposed to be scary, otherwise the film has no music. It could have helped the film to some extent, but the acting, and story is just so bad, it could have only done so much.
Dialogue: The dialogue is drab and boring. Even with a demon and an Ouija board, the dialogue is more lame and tame than nearly any other film I have ever seen. It just doesn’t convey information to us or other characters well, and sometimes no information is conveyed at all. Nothing is fun in the dialogue, and if it was a silent film, things would have turned out better.
Logic in the film: So I know we are dealing with the supernatural, so I don’t expect things to be perfect, but the film actually does this part decently well. I do have to say that I am confused as to how the demon posses someone, but other than that, the movie makes sense. Physics mostly makes sense, some supernatural things happen, but follow rules, so it is actually decent.
Did I like the movie? No not at all. DO I suggest watching it? No, if you like ripping a new one into movies with friends, sure, but your friends will like you less for it. It just feels like a life time, while the film is only a hour and a half. I hated it and am sorry I finished it. The score for the film is 23%. It isn’t good or nearly worth the effort to find to watch, go watch any other possession horror movie. Until Next Time!
