This movie is a remake of the 1963 film of the same name. It has a slightly bigger twist and adds a few new elements of surprise than the original, but is it better?

Interest: This movie while it does have it’s shocking moments, doesn’t hold your attention well. Most of the twists or turns are pretty much out of nowhere, and almost seem… Out of place? Forced? A little awkward? Whatever it is, it isn’t great and it doesn’t make you want to keep watching very well. The murder and violence in this movie does help make this film more tolerable but it only does so much.

Acting: No big actors (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) but besides the mom of the film, and the black guy, most of these actors can’t act well. They are trying to act like they are real people doing real family things with real struggles, the problem is you can clearly tell they are actors trying to act like real people doing real family things with real struggles. It just isn’t good and doesn’t help with the interest.

Storyline: The storyline is pretty much mom has money, has Dementia (Thus title.) and the kids and their significant others all come over to see mom to try to get her riches. Some mysterious weird shit happens and well you pretty much have this movie. It is pretty lack luster as a story, you can see the twists, but they are still interesting.

Disturbing: This movie starts off disturbing and kinda keeps it at a simmer of disturbing. Creepy possessed dolls, exploded off part of a face, and some other things that I’d hate to ruin for you. But it was a little bit more messed up in physical ways then the last few movies I’ve watched.

Fights, Guns or otherwise: This film had many small fights, some kills, and verbal lashings everywhere. This is where the film actually shines. Everything else may be lack luster but this honestly hits an above average score. This is honestly what kept me going.

Excitement: There really isn’t much of this except when a fight breaks out. Otherwise there are some arguments and bickering, some nice views of a castle, otherwise it’s just a bland and boring movie.

Horror: So it is just average, with a doll that is trying to kill the family as well as someone else, but the ways it does this is very cliché and overdone, even though I do want to be scared by this film. The problem is that it telegraphs anything it wants to happen way before it’s meant to happen, and unless you just instantly get sucked into movies when you start watching them, this one will be a bad and semi painful thing to watch.

Nudity: there is no nudity, it wouldn't of really helped or hurt this film any. I suppose it would have been weird if it did have nudity mostly because this film tries to be like a file about objects being possessed, but also people are assholes and killing each other, but not in a slasher genre type of way.

Gore: Gore was pretty up there from the beginning there was violence and the dudes face is pretty well mangled, and he keeps it mangled for the whole movie, which he is an integral part of the film. Besides that, the film is depictive of how the killings happen. If you like gore but think Saw 3 was overkill with drowning someone in pig guts, this I think easily finds a place for you.

Logic: Everything made sense besides how the doll became possessed, and the previous plot holes of the original film. No cheesy things happen like slip on a banana peel death or anything that seemed out of place. Things had a rhyme or a reason, but it felt like it was a stamped cookie cutter film that was made.

Was it worth a watch? It’d be fun perhaps with friends to rip on it, but otherwise it is pretty bland, things happen, and the conveyor keeps going on and on. I won’t be watching this again unless someone else suggests it. I wouldn’t watch it unless you wanted to see the similarities and differences of the original and this film, and I think honestly the original was better. Total score is 56 out of 100, watch it if you’d like to, otherwise just pass by this one.
